Changing file extensions in windows XP

Sometimes it may be necessary to change the file extension to open the file or files with a different application or in a different method. Here's the procedure :

  1. Go to the Tools menu.
  2. Select Folder Options.
  3. In the 'View' tab, uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file types" and apply.

  4. Now rename the file by replacing the existing extension with the one you need.

hey Tushar
i m very impressed by ur idea to change the extension of the file and made it of desired extension ...
but still there are flaws in your approach as take an example :
suppose you have to change extension of a .doc file into let say .pdf then barely writing .pdf in front of its name will not change its property as that very file having .doc have some metadata associated with it .. which make it capable exists as .doc

so there will be possibility that u might have encountered such transitions which are fruitful but this proposed idea of your's is not EXACT SOLUTION . :)
